Glasgow hosts the 11th ITS European Congress

With the theme “Delivering future cities now”, ERTICO – ITS Europe is organising the 11th ITS European Congress in Glasgow (www.itsineurope.comwith the support of the European Commission. The event will take place on 6-9 June 2016 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC), the country largest exhibition venue.  This year’s theme focuses on increasing connectivity, bringing new services to users and improving communication in a sustainable way. Maximising benefits of ITS to the user will be highlighted throughout the Congress, the Exhibition and the Demonstrations with thousands of participants including public administrations, industry and ITS-related organisations showcasing technologies and services available to “deliver future cities now”.

Hosted every year, when the ITS World Congress is not held in Europe, the ITS European Congresses represent the largest event and exhibition fully dedicated to intelligent transport systems and services. About 2,500 participants from all over Europe are expected to travel to Glasgow in 2016 for the event, with over 80 exhibitors from 50+ countries on a 5000sqm area and over 100 sessions around 5 Topics (Automation, Services to user, Space technologies, Sustainable transport for people and goods, Climate).

Glasgow is the UK’s first ‘Smart City’ having won a £24 million (nearly 33 million Euros) Future Cities Demonstrator grant from the Technology Strategy Board – a body set up by the UK Government to stimulate technology-enabled innovation. Glasgow has strong aspirations to become one of Europe’s most sustainable cities by 2020. Hosting the ITS European Congress & Exhibition in 2016 will demonstrate a legacy of the city’s first ‘themed’ year – Glasgow’s Green Year 2015 – which will deliver a high profile series of events and initiatives to encourage local businesses and communities to support environmental, social and economic sustainability.
